'Good Days in Unusual Times'.  This link provides a short story and thinking time for you and your child to discuss the different things that are happening at the moment and also to give you some good ideas on what you could do next.  Do not hesitate to contact us at school if you need further support.

Task 3 - Today is World Environment Day! Since 1974, it has been celebrated every year on 5 June; engaging governments, businesses, celebrities and citizens to focus their efforts on a pressing environmental issue. This year, the focus is on nature and biodiversity (the variety of plant and animal life in the world). Take a look at the website using the button below. There are videos, stories, games and lots of information about biodiversity. 

Once you have done your research, I’d like you to create an advert to promote World Environment Day 2020 (this could be in poster or leaflet form) and looking after our world! Feel free to send me your designs when they are complete!

Task 4  - This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and this year’s theme is ‘kindness’. I’d like you to design a poster promoting kindness in our community. How can we show kindness towards others? Task 3Today, I would like you to take your time to carefully sketch whatever you can see from a window in your house. Looking at the shapes of things bit by bit helps you to be more realistic than trying to draw what you think it should look like.

You could also use your fingers to see how big some things are compared to other things (if you close one eye it helps you to focus). For example, if I close one eye the house I can see up the road is about eight fingers big and the windows are two fingers.

Here are some lovely examples with lots of detail; you could even add some colour or shading. Enjoy!

Task 4 -  Since 1945 the end of World War Two in Europe has been marked by Victory in Europe Day, better known as VE Day. On 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany's surrender the day before. Today marks 75 years since the first VE Day!

Task 3Today, I’d like you to think about your local area. I have listed some questions for you to answer about where you live. Some questions may require you to do some further research! You may answer these questions by using: direct observation, maps, photographs, online resources, asking people who live in your house or asking people via technology (video calling your grandparents for example!)

  1. What is the name of the place where you live?
  2. Where is this place and which other places are near it?
  3. Is it a village, town, suburb or part of a city?
  4. What types of buildings can we find and what are they used for
  5. What different types of land-use can we find?
  6. Are there any green spaces and what are they used for?
  7. Who lives here and what do they do?
  8. How do people use this landscape in different ways? Think about human (made-made) and physical (naturally occurring) features!
  9. What types of transport links can we find?
  10. What evidence is there of connections to other places?
  11. What was this place like in the past?
  12. How and why is it changing?


 

Task 4 - Why not try a new skill today? Finger spelling is a way of spelling words using hand movements and is a part of learning sign language. Each letter of the alphabet has a different sign. British Sign Language (BSL) uses a two-handed version, whereas others, such as American Sign Language (ASL) use only one. Try spelling your name using the poster below to help you!

Task 4You may have heard about the British war veteran, Captain Tom Moore who has completed 100 laps of his 25m back garden in Bedfordshire! He has raised over £30 million for Britain's National Health Service (NHS) and has received donations to his fundraising challenge from all around the world! Captain Tom began raising funds to thank NHS staff who helped him with treatment for cancer and a broken hip, he originally aimed to raise just £1000 but quickly passed his target! It was also a very special birthday for him last week – he is now 100 years old!

Today, I’d like you to write a diary entry from the main character’s point of view. You can use similar ideas but you must use the 1st person and include lots of thoughts and feelings! Task 3 - Complete your Goldsworthy or Mock- inspired sculpture or you could create a new one of your choice! Don’t forget to send me a picture of your work – I’m looking forward to seeing them!

Thursday 30th April 2020

Task 2 - Have a look at the image and the story starter below. Can you complete the story? Don’t forget to use interesting vocabulary to describe as well as dialogue that helps to create a character! Maybe you can use some ideas from She Wolf to help you.

Task 3 -  Sculpture time! I’d like you to recreate one of Goldsworthy or Mock’s sculptures – choose your favourite image and start creating your sculpture using recyclable materials around your house (Mock) or natural materials in the garden or on your walk (Goldsworthy)! Don’t forget to check with your adult at home that they don’t need the items you choose to use before you create art work with them!!

It would be great if you could take a picture of your sculpture and send it to my email address! We could create our very own art gallery! Enjoy smiley

I’d like you to choose one of the pictures below and have a go at listing what you think it might be made out of! Once you have done that, I’d like you to sketch the sculpture. One day, their peaceful existence is disrupted by a vulture intent on stealing their pride and joy! Imagine you are the head meerkat. Write a formal letter to the vulture explaining why you and your friends are upset with his decision to attempt to steal the fruit.

 

Task 3 - How do you know if a website is reliable? We have discussed this in class recently, particularly when talking about Wikipedia! Create an information sheet, leaflet or poster explaining how to check if a website is reliable. You can do your own research or use the image below to help you!

Happy Friday - I hope you have all had a good week and are keeping safe and well!

Task 2 - Choose two characters from two different stories. Write the conversation that those two characters might have… this could be interesting! Don’t forget to use the correct speech punctuation!! Try to convey each character through the words they actually say, how they say them and the actions they might take when they are saying those words. You might choose where she meets the three Vikings in the woods or maybe even once she’s fought off the bear! Remember to use past tense, 1st person and thoughts and feelings. You will also have to write it informally, conveying Ylva’s character as best you can.
