Welcome to your home learning tasks page Year 6! Here, you will find daily activities that you could complete at home. Remember, you have lots of work in your home learning packs too. Try your best and enjoy! If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thursday 2nd April 2020

Task 1 - Click the button below and complete Week 2, Lesson 4 - Introduce Angles. You will be able to watch the video and complete the workshete in your books. 

Task 2 - Below is a picture and a story starter. Can you complete the story? 

 

Task 3 - Jewellery was very important for the Vikings. Use the website below to research what the jewellery was like and why it was so important. Design your own piece of Viking jewellery then colour and label it in your yellow books. Who can persuade me to choose theirs for my collection?

Wednesday 1st April 2020 

Task 1 - Click on the button below and complete Week 2, Lesson 3 - Measure with a protractor. I know some of you may not have a protractor at home - don't worry! The only question that you will need a protractor for is Q3 so just skip this one! You can complete this work in your yellow books. 

Task 2 - Watch this short video by clicking on the button below. A group of meerkats lovingly tend to a beloved and unique fruit in the middle of the savannah. One day, their peaceful existence is disrupted by a vulture intent on stealing their pride and joy! Imagine you are the head meerkat. Write a formal letter to the vulture explaining why you and your friends are upset with his decision to attempt to steal the fruit.

 

Task 3 - How do you know if a website is reliable? We have discussed this in class recently, particularly when talking about Wikipedia! Create an information sheet, leaflet or poster explaining how to check if a website is reliable. You can do your own research or use the image below to help you! 

 

Task 4 - In RE, we have been thinking about recreation and days that are set aside for resting. How can we use our free time most effectively for ourselves and others? Write your ideas and reflections using these sentence starters:

I think a day of rest is/ is not important because…

If I had a specific day to rest I would…

Other ideas I have about this are…

A believer would agree / disagree because…

 

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Task 2 - Choose 5 different Year 3/4 curriculum words and 5 different Year 5/6 curriculum words from last week. Write a sentence including each word. Make them as interesting as you can!

Monday 30th March 2020 

Time to start a new week! Don't forget to contact me via email if you have any questions or even if you'd just like to tell me how you've been getting on! It has been lovely to hear from so many of you already - keep smiling! smiley

Task 1 - Click on the button and complete Week 2 Lesson 1 - Calculating scale factors. You will be able to watch the video and complete the activity in your yellow books.

Task 2 - Write a newspaper report about the what happened to Ylva’s mother in the hut. You are the reporter! Remember to use the 5Ws, direct and reported speech, time adverbials to show chronological order and formal language. The hunt for the three-fingered man is on! 

Task 3 - Log into Seneca Learning using your log in sheets in your home learning packs. If you haven’t done so already, your parent will have to sign up using their email address for you to access this website. I have set up a Science assignment all about classification. Let’s see how much you can remember!

Task 4 - Log into the Busy Things website using the button below. I have set you some French activities today! See if you can learn different animals and body parts. Don’t forget, you can create a page in your yellow books to help you remember – just like we do in our class French book! 

 

Friday 27th March 2020 
Happy Friday - I hope you have all had a good week and are keeping safe and well! 

Task 1 - Click on the button below and complete Lesson 5 - Using scale factors. You will be able to watch the video and complete the activity in your yellow books. 

 

Task 2 - Choose two characters from two different stories. Write the conversation that those two characters might have… this could be interesting! Don’t forget to use the correct speech punctuation!! Try to convey each character through the words they actually say, how they say them and the actions they might take when they are saying those words. I have thought of some examples you could use but feel free to choose your own!

Task 3 - Draw and label a diagram of a Viking long ship. Feel free to design your own prow (the front end of the ship where there was often a carved, wooden figurehead) and hand painted shields used for defence! You can use this website to help but you can also use the images below for some inspiration!

Task 4 - Try to complete this Sudoku. Remember, each row, each column and each small square must have the numbers 1-9. Copy the numbers down into your yellow books smiley

 

Thursday 26th March 2020 

Task 1 - Click on the button below and complete Lesson 4 - Calculating ratio. You will be able to watch the video and complete the activity in your yellow books. 

 

Task 2 - How are you getting on with your reading books? Once you've finished, you could write a book review in your yellow books!  If you fancy a new book to listen to, click on the button below to see what you can find smiley

 

Task 3 - Complete this reading comprehension question. Can you get all three marks? Remember to give evidence from the text! You can complete this in your yellow books.

 

Task 4 - Use the website below to research the Vikings. Use the information you find to create a poster detailing what kind of people the Vikings really were! You can do this in your yellow books or on paper and stick it in! Don’t forget, you have information in your home learning packs too.

Task 5 - The picture below is called “The Coming Storm.” Can you answer the questions underneath in your yellow book? Try to be as imaginative as you can!

  1. Write a paragraph about being caught in a storm. What is it like? 
  2. Are storms the same all over the world, or are they different?
  3. What causes a storm?
  4. What is your favourite type of weather? Why?

 

Wednesday 25th March 2020 

Task 1 - Click on the button below and complete Lesson 3 - Introducing the ratio symbol. You will be able to watch the video and complete the activity sheet in your yellow books. 

 

Task 2 - Log into your Maths Whizz account. I have left you a message! How many progressions can you get this week?  Click the button below to get there smiley

 

Task 3 - Write a diary entry from Ylva’s point of view at any point in the story so far. You might choose when she first meets Cathryn and Bron. You might choose where she meets the three Vikings in the woods or maybe even once she’s fought off the bear! Remember to use past tense, 1st person and thoughts and feelings. You will also have to write it informally, conveying Ylva’s character as best you can. 

 

Task 4 - Research the work of Carl Linnaeus using the website below. Write a fact file about him and his idea. Explain how his work as a scientist links to our topic “Living things and their habitats.”  You can complete this in your yellow books or as a word document if you would like smiley

Task 5 - If you had one superpower, what would it be? Explain why you have chosen that superpower, what you would do with it, and how it would change your life. 

 

Tuesday 24th March 2020 

Task 1 - Click on the button below and complete Lesson 2 - Ratio and fractions. You will be able to watch the video and complete the activity sheet in your yellow books.

 

Task 2 -  Choose 5 Year 3/4 curriculum words and 5 Year 5/6 curriculum words. Write a sentence including each word. Make them as interesting as you can!

 

Task 3 - Log into Seneca Learning using your log in information in your home learning packs. Your parents will have to sign in with their email address for you to be able to access this website. Please ask permission first! I have set up a reading comprehension activity for you to do.

Task 4 - Log into the Busy Things website using your log in sheet in your home learning packs. I have created two Science activities for you today. One is focussed on the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates and the other is all about sorting animals, according to what they eat. Have fun! Remember to put on your taxonomist hat! 

 

Task 5 - Log into the Busy Things website using your log in sheet in your home learning packs. I have set you some French activities! Remember when we learnt how to say different classroom objects and colours? Have a go here! 

 

Monday 23rd March 2020 

Task 1 - Click on the button below and complete Lesson 1 - Using ratio language. You will be able to watch the video and complete the activity sheet in your yellow books.

 

Task 2 - Write a character description of either Ylva, Bron or Cathryn from our story 'She Wolf.' Remember to use ambitious vocabulary, a variety of sentence structures and different ways to open those sentences! Why not draw a picture to go with your description? You can complete these in your yellow books. 

 

Task 3 - Log into the Busy Things website using your log in sheet in your home learning packs. I have created a Science activity for you to complete. It is all about our classification unit. Have fun! 

 

Task 4 - Try some Go Noodle activities to get you moving! Don't forget to warm up before you start and cool down afterwards!
