Good morning Year 2. Well, what can I say, I can't believe it is Friday again already - you have worked so hard and I have enjoyed receiving all of your emails of work. However, I have to say Year 2 I cannot wait to see you all next week laugh  Here are today's tasks - enjoy!

Get Active

This morning I would like you to get active with the kidz Bop dancers. Choose a couple of your favourites from the video below to join in with. I love Fight Song.

Today is our last day of our Non-Fiction Comprehension - have a go at your Big Read dated 5.3.21. Try and do this one independently today like we would in class.

Phonics:

Take a look at today's sounds and spellings for recapping. Remember these are alternatives to the ones we already know. Use your rainbow writing then choose a few to put into sentences. 

Arithmetic:

This has been a great week recapping our times tables facts for 2,5, and 10 times tables. I would like you to click the link below and play the game to practise your 2,5 and 10 x tables. If I've given you a challenge one to try you can have a go at that one too. 

Maths

Today we are consolidating our work on 2D shape patterns. In your pack you have some patterned tiles to create your own pattern with, but first I would like you to watch the Oak Academy lesson below and have a go at the quizzes and activities on there first - remember you can send me a photo of your computer quiz too. 

  

Spellings: 

You have tried really hard with your homophones this week Year 2. Today I have included some teaching slides for you to have a look at with some questions for you to discuss at home. I would then like you to ask your adult to test you on the different homophones we have learnt this week - can you spell them and put them into a sentence correctly?

ART:

Today's art work activity is very exciting because you are going to have a go at creating your own Squares with Concentric Circles picture - inspired by Kandinsky's version. You can choose to use crayons, paints, whatever you have access to at home and have fun experimenting with the style. Here is the original picture below to give you some inspiration. Enjoy being artists Year 2 :) 

Yoga

Time for  little relaxtion for a Friday - enjoy going on a bear hunt with some cosmic yoga.

Phonics: 

We are recapping the alternate sounds and spellings today for: oo / air and ow. When looking at the 'oo' alternatives have a think... is it 'oo' or 'yoo'? Can you put them into two separate columns to show the differnet way they can be said too? 

Practise writing out the words emphasising the alternate spellings by using a different colour or pattern to make it stand out. 

     

Arithmetic: 

Well done for all your hard work on MyMaths this week Year 2 - you have tried really hard. I would like you to practise your 2,5, and 10 x tables today by playing the game below. Click the link and have a go. You can always do the speed challenges afterwards if you want an extra practise! 

 

Maths: 

Good sorting yesterday Year 2 using the properties of the shapes. Today we are looking at how to use 2d shapes in patterns. Watch the video below and then complete your worksheet dated 4.3.21. 

Spellings: 

Today we are looking at the homophone which and witch. Practise writing them out and then popping them into sentences.

Can you include the other homophones we have been practising this week? 

For example: The witch went to the shops to buy two frogs but there were too many for her to choose from. 

 

World Book Day

I will be sharing an extract from one of my favourite books and films (both versions) this afternoon on our Teams sessions and then I have a few activities for you to do to follow up.

We continue to develop our reading comprehension skills this week Year 2. Remember to use the text really well to find your answers - this will give you all you need. When writing your answers in sentences, don't forget your capital letters and full stops too. Today I would like you to write each word out 3 or 4 times in a funny shape or pattern like we do with our speedy spellings.

It is the 10 X tables' turn today on My Maths. Log on and complete the online activity - you have been doing really well with this this week Year 2 - keep it up! 

Maths: 

Well tried yesterday Year 2 - I know some of you found it a bit tricky. Today we are looking at 2D shapes and how we can sort them using the information we learnt about their sides, vertices and symmetry. Watch the video below then complete your activity sheet dated 3.3.21

Spellings: 

Well done with your homophones work yesterday. Today we are looking at another common homophone - thier / there / they're. Each word sounds the same but is spelt differently and means a different thing. Take a look at the video below then complete the online activities. 

 

Art:

This afternoon's art work is all about recreating a shape piece in the style of Kandinsky. Use the coloured shapes in your pack and the colouring sheet to become and artist and create your own pictures. Don't forget to send them to me.

Time to Think

Today's time to think activity liks with our Eco activity from Mrs Wright. It is all about being grateful for what we have which incliudes our world. Have a chat about what you are gratfeul for then have a go at Mrs Wright's Eco activity below.

This week for our arithmetic sessions we will be concentrating on our times tables. Today is all about X by 5. Log onto My Maths and complete the online worksheet.

Hello Year 2. Welcome to a new week and a new month. Happy 1st March! After your fantastic efforts last week I cannot wait to see what you have in store for this week. Keep up the good work. Well done. 

This morning I have a brand new Go Noodle for us to try - Tom and Jerry are out for an exciting run - ducking, diving and dodging. Follow the video and join in with the routine.

This week it is time to get those Art packs out and enjoy learning all about an artist and his work. This week we will be learning all about Wassily Kandinsky. In yoiur pack you will find some teaching slides all about colours and his work. I have also attached the slides HERE for you. 

Read through the sildes then create a poster all about Wassily Kandinsky.

I am very excited to say we are doing Music this week for our topic work. We will be learning all about pitch in singing and music and why it is important. We will be using some lessons from our Collins Connect - Music Express reources that we use in school, as well as a few others. 

You can log into Music Express by following the details in your remote learning letter or by following the instructions on our Singing and Music page HERE. Why not log on and have a play with some of the songs from the Song Bank. 

Today I would like you to watch the video below all about what pitch is and talk about it at home.

Happy Friday Year 2! What a fabulous week we have had! Great participation during our Teams meetings and loads of lovely work completed. Thank you Year 2 - I am very proud of you all.

Let's start our last day of this half term with a really good boogie to some Kidz Bop! Choose your favourite from the video below. 

English:

Today Year 2 you are going to become writers! Enjoy writing a recount in full. You can use the checklist in your pack to make sure you don't miss any bits out. Follow the video and use the writing paper in your pack to write your recount on. 

Phonics:

You have done amazingly well with all your recapping this half term Year 2 so today I would like you to have some phonics fun! Go to Phonics Play and play some of the games for Phase 5 sounds. 

Arithmetic:

Today Year 2 I would like you to click the picture below to play Shark Numbers - all about place value. Choose the numbers you would like to practise then play the game. 

Maths: 

Today you will be doing our last lesson on statistics Year 2 and looking at some Block Digrams. These use blocks of colour to represent different numbers of things. Watch the video then complete your activity sheet dated 12.2.21

Spellings:

It is spelling test day Year 2 - have a go at writing your contraction words out - getting the contraction apostrophe in the right place. Let me know how you get on :) 

   

We are continuing to look at technology and how it is used today - remember to watch the videos on the little green monster. 

Today is all about Uses of Technology - what do we use different devices for? What would we use for a certain purpose and how is technology used in different workplaces?

I really enjoyed reading your recount writing yesterday Year 2 - well done. Today we are going to write part 2! Watch the next part of the video then use the lines in your pack to write it out. 

Phonics:

This morning's phonics video recaps the soft G sound - as in gem / gym / magic

Watch the video below then use your magic paintbrush to write them out in the air. 

Arithmetic:

Today I would like you to practise ordering and sequencxing numbers by playing the acterpillar game below. Remember to give yourself a challenge when choosing the numbers. 

 

Maths

Year 2 you are Statistics Superstars! You have done so well this week - keep it up. Today is all about interpreting pictograms again and looking at how we 'read' them. Watch the video below then complete your worksheet dated 11.2.21

Computing:

   

Year 2 we are going to look at devices and how technology is used all around us. This is called Digital Literacy. If you click on the little green monster he will take you to lots of videos all about using the internet safely and what Digital Literacy is. Over the next couple of days take a look. 

It is really important to remember how we stay safe when using technology as well as choosing the right device - with our adult's help - for the right job!

Good morning Year 2. Super work yesterday. Don't forget to keep reading and going onto Maths Whizz when you can. 

Let's kick start our day with the Supermovers and a new routine to have a go at. 

 

English:

Well done with your English activities yesterday - you are all trying very hard. Today we start practising how to write a recount - with Lesson 7: Part 1. 

Use the lined paper in your pack to help you with your writing today. 

Phonics:

This morning's phonics video recaps the IE (ee) as in field sounds. Watch the video then pop some of your IE words into a sentence. 

 

Arithmetic:

Today I would like you to head over to Maths Whizz and have a go at some Number activities - adding, subtracting, place value. See how many progressions you can get. 

Maths

Wow Year 2 - great work yesterday with your pictograms, you did really well with them. Well done. Today we are sticking with pictograms, but looking at when the scale goes up in 2,5,10 instead of just 1 each time - what happens now? Today is all about drawing and interpreting pictograms. I have popped 2 short videos for you to have a look at today - the first is about how we draw pictograms and the second is about how we interpret them. Staying Safe On-line 

Today is Safer Internet Day and I would like you to take a look at some of the activities on our school website. Click the link below to take you there and watch the video all about Jesse and her friends playing games. Then have a go at the activities that follow the video. 

PE

It is our PE day Year 2. We have been doing all about athletics - running, jumping, throwing. 

Today I would like you to put those things together - can you set up a course outside that means you have to run, jump and move about. Maybe you could take a picture of your course and send it to me or even draw it out. 

If you can't do that, don't worry just make sure you get active and complete some Go Noodle or Joe Wickes from the links at the top of our home learning page. 

 

Monday 8th February 2021

Good morning Year 2 and welcome to a brand new week. I really enjoyed our chats last week and look forward to seeing you all on teams this week.

Well done with all of your recount work last week Year 2 - we continue our recount learning this week. Today we are 'Boxing Up'. This helps us to organise our ideas and put things in the right order. Watch the lesson below and complete the sheet in your oack dated 8th February.

This morning's phonics video recaps the PH sound - as in phone or photograph. Watch the video then write out some PH words making the PH phoneme stand out! 

Arithmetic:

Maths

We are starting a brand new unit this week Year 2 - how exciting! It is all about Statistics! This means tally charts, graphs, pictograms and data. Watch the video below from White Rose and then complete your worskeet in your pack dated 8.2.21 - Making Tally Charts. 

 

Spellings: 

This week we are learning all about contractions! Contractions are used in spellings to shorten words. For example - cannot become can't. The apostrophe replaces the letters.

Happy Friday Year 2! I hope you've had a lovely day and have enjoyed finding out a little bit more about how to listen to your mind and body to help you be happy, relax and find ways to talk about how you are feeling. I have loved seeing all of your work and pictures this week - thank you.

You did really well with using the opast tense yesterday Year 2 - well done. Today's lesson is all about finding out information from a recount. Today you will be like Rex Retriever! Follow the video and complete the sheet in your pack. 

Phonics:

This morning's phonics video recaps the OW sound. Watch the video then  have a go a writing some OW words out - can you put them into a sentence? 

Arithmetic:

Today I would like you to log onto MyMaths and complete the activity all about 2s,5s and 10s. Test yourself and see how well you are doing with these timetables and counting in stpes of 2, 5 and 10. 

 

Maths:

Year 2, you have really impressed with how well you have tried with your multiplication and division - a big well done! This is our final lesson on multiplication and division today and there are a couple of things I would like you to do. 

The first, is to complete the worksheets in your pack dated 5.2.21 - please try and complete these independently so you and I can can see what you have learnt. 

You also have a multiplication and a division workbook in your pack - have a go at these activities and see how much you have remembered from our multiplication and division unit.

CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY TIME! 

 

National Storytelling Week - as a final activity for National Storytelling Week, I would like you to think back over our stories from this week - whcih was your favourite and why? Which did you most enjoy listening to? 

I would like you to draw me a picture of your favourite story, or part of the story and write a short explanation about WHY it was your favourite. I think I might find it too hard to decide as they are ALL my favourites but try and just pick 1 if you can! 

I can't wait to see which one gets the most votes!

This afternoon's well-being activity is all about doing something Physical and Spiritual. I have popped a couple of calming videos for you to watch and take part in. I have included our well loved Cosmic Yoga as well as a couple of breathing and calm mind activities. 

Taking time to relax, breathe and think about yoursleves is really really important for your well-being - so have a go at one or more of the vidoes and enjoy a little Friday afternoon relaxation. You have earned it Year 2! 

 

Thursday 4th February 2021

Good morning Year 2- you are having a great week - well done! Make sure you log onto teams each session to find out more about what we are getting up to! 

Today is ‘World Cancer Day’. We are thinking about people who might be very poorly, and how we could help them and make them smile. We are also raising some money for the charity Leukaemia Care who helps lots of poorly people too. You can make a donation (if you are able to) on Parent Pay under the heading ‘World Cancer Day’. 

Cancer can make some people very poorly. They might need to go to hospital to have some medicine to make them feel better. The people who help them might be doctors, nurses, dentists, carers. Can you draw a picture of the people who help us when we feel poorly? Who helps you when you feel poorly?

We will be talking about this a bit more on our morning Teams chat with an extra challenge for you today :)

Today I would like you to get creative and do some rainbow writing with your common exception words. 

 

   

This afternoon's tasks are focussing on things that make you smile and things that might make someone else smile if they were feeling unwell. 

Watch this video below about having a happy mind as well as a healthy body and you can join in with some of the activities too. 

I would like you to talk about what makes you happy and smiley and then create some ideas on a sheet like Mrs Mee's or you could use your own design. 

Then have a think about what might make somone else smile - might it be a drawing? A phone call? A box of chocolates? Talk about it with your family at home. 

Don't forget to share your ideas and pictures of what makes you smile with me.  

Wedenesday 3rd February 2021

Hello Year 2 and welcome to inside out day! I shall be wearing an item of clothing inside out - hope you are too. All in the aid of 'kindness'. Remember to be kind always :) 

Today on our TEAMS chat we will be talking about Mrs Mee's Cup of Kindness. Can we fill it up with kindness? Maybe you could design your own family kindness cup too heart

Let's get today's activities going. I will start you off with some 'Supermovers' aactivities to wake you up. This one is all about being HAPPY and SAFE! Perfect for our Children's Mental Health Week. 

English:

Today we follow the next lesson for our English on Oak Academy all about using role-play to help us understand a recount. Today we will be using questions to help us with this. Write your questions on the sheet in your activity pack and don't forget to use a ?

Phonics:

This morning's alternative sound is the long 'a' vowel sound - as in acorn  rather than apple. Follow the video and join in with your magic paintbrush writing! 

Arithmetic:

Log onto MyMaths and check out the activity I have put on for you - a place value recap! 

Maths:

Year 2 you have done brilliantly with your multiplication and division work over the last few weeks - well done. We are going to spend the next couple of days putting that into practice by solving some word problems. The first is to go on a winter nature walk and see what you can spot - I've popped some ideas below. The second one is a treasure hunt around the house! There are lots of things for you to try and find - can you take a picture and let me know what you have found? If you can, get outdoors and get some fresh air!

Let's start the day with one of our self-care activities - exercise! 

 

English:

Today there isn't a worksheet for you to complete for English - instead I would like you to listen to follow the video and take part in the activities on there - you may want to jot some notes down on the back of one of your sheets but you do not need to. Today is all about re-telling and using your voice and memory. Clcik on the link below to take you to today's lesson. 

Phonics: 

For today's phonics I'd like you to grab your coloured crayons and have a go at writing out today's sound using a different colour - make it stand out! Our sound for today is i - as in child / find - the long vowel i sound. 

Arithmetic: 

Today I would like you to practise your 10 X tables and go number diving on the timestables website. Whilst you're there you can practise your 10 x table with a speed test too. 

Maths: 

You have all worked so hard with your division work over the last few days Year 2 - well done. Today, the focus is on dividing by 10. You can use your 10 x tables to help you. Watch the White Rose video below and then complete your worksheet dated 2.1.21.

Children's Mental Health Week: Express Yourself! 

   

Time to find another way to help ourselves relax, take time for ourselves and do something that makes us happy.

One of our absolute favourite things to do in my house is baking! However, I know it's not everyone's so today I would like you to either make something, bake something or get creative. I have popped some links below with ideas or you can come up with your own. If you can, send me a photo of your finished product. 

Change for Life have some recipe ideas or you could do one of your favourites. 

   

You could get busy with your creative side too.

Get Active - Morning Wake Up! 

Let's start the week with an Andy's Wild Workout - pick one of your favourites and enjoy.

We are heading back to writing this week Year 2 and looking at a non-fiction piece of writing called a recount. A recount looks at things that have already happenend in the past tense. Take a look at Lesson 1 on the Oak Academy webiste and have a listen to the recount. Then complete the worksheet in your pack dated Monday 1st February.

We all know that Mrs Mee loves to sing and dance around, but it is actually really good for your mental health as well. Singing and dancing makes you feel happy! Staying safe whilst on line is also really important as sometimes there may be strangers there too. Watch the video about Lee and Kim on our webiste HERE and then in your pack there is a sheet with a treasure box on it and a computer just like this. Have a talk with your adult about it and see if you can complete the sheet.

Today's athletics skill to think about is jumping - how do we jump? What do you think we need to do? Always remember to be safe and check your surroundings are safe before doing any activity. When we jump we must remember to bend our knees when we land. Have a go at the activities below if you can. 

* Warm up with some running with Bo Peep. 

* Have a practise at some jumping jacks on Go Noodle- follow the video below. 

* Then have a go at this ten minute jumping challenge. Make an imaginary rectangle on the floor and practise jumping in and out of it like on the pictures below.

Today it is time to start our new story - how very exciting Year 2! I cannot wait to read all of your fantatsic sentences and descriptions. Follow the lesson below (Lesson 7) to help you write it correctly.

Today's sound we are recapping is the split digraph 'o-e' as in 'stone'. Today I would like you to put 5 of the words you hear and read into 5 different sentences.

Today we are focussing on the ER suffix. Words like waiter and louder. Look at the list of words below and then writ ethe words out emphasising the er sound. You could use a coloured crayon or a pattern - be creative.

Geography: 

Our Geography topic is about making comparisons - looking for things that are the same and different. You ahve done a great job finding out about the UK and now its time to travel around the world to the continent of Africa - in particular Kenya. 

Using the sheets in your pack or online with the help of an adult, find out some facts about Kenya - what is the population? The weather like? Then fill in your Kenya fact sheet dated 20.1.21. I have popped some pictures and fact cards for you here too.

Today is 'test me' day! Ask your adult at home to test you on this week's spellings. Can you remember them all? If you get any wrong, don't worry just write them out again so you can practise getting them right. 

Afterwards I woiuld like you to choose 5 of our Year 1 and 2 common exception words and practise writing them out in all different colours or shapes. These words are crucial! 

Science: 

For today's science lesson I would like you to think back on everything you have learnt this week - tell your adult what plants need to grow and what they are made up of. Go back over the crucial knowledge from the beginning of the week. 

Today you are going to make some predictions. Look at your worksheet and think about what would happen to the plant in all the different conditions then keep your eyes peeled for some pictures of plants growing over the next few weeks.

Let's start the day the right way - with another Andy's Wild Workout - I know you love them :) 

English:

So many of you have done some lovely story maps - well done. Today's Monkeys and Hats lesson is all about sequencing the story - follow the activities on the video and then use adjectives to describe your favourite part of the story in your paper pack. 

Phonics: 

Keep recapping those sounds Year 2! They will help you for both your reading and your spellings when writing - choosing the right sound for spelling is VERY important in Year 2! 

Whilst you are watching, trying writing the sounds out in the air or on paper. 

Arithmetic: 

Let's keep working on those number bonds! Don't forget to check your paper pack and see if there is a task to do today as well. I would like you to try number bonds to 20 today. Play Hit the Button but just to 20 - play it 3 or 4 times - can you get more right each time? 

Maths: 

I saw some great work yesterday in Maths - just remember that if we are doing repeated addition, the number repeated is the same each time. 

So: 5 + 5 + 5 = 15               3 X 5 = 15

Today's lesson is all about that multiplication sign again and using pictures to help you solve multiplication questions. Watch the White Rose video by clicking below and then complete the worksheet in your pack. 

I have also set you a task on My Maths to be completed that links with our multiplication topic - please have a go at this once you have completed your paper worksheet. 

Spellings: 

This week we are continuing to practise adding those suffixes to the end of words. Today I would like you to use the spellings from your pack and do some Rainbow Writing - can you spell them in all different colours? Patterns? Write them out a few times in different shapes too, just like we do at school.

Spellings:

Remember to keep practising those common exception words - they are on our homework page and in your paper pack. A few a day will really help! Write them out in different colours, funny shapes - any way to help you remember them!
