Friday 22nd January 2021

Good morning Year 2! I have really enjoyed seeing your work this week - everyone has put so much effort in! I am very proud of you all.

Physical Activity:

This morning I would like you to get your groove on with some Zumba! Copy the movements on the video below. 

English: 

Your stories are coming on so well Year 2 - just remeber to keep adding the details and adjectives as well to make it even more exciting! Watch the final lesson for this week (lesson 9) and write the ending of your story.

Afterwards, if you would like you can write it out as one full story to see how it all goes together. 

Phonics: 

Today we are looking at a different EW sound. This one is for words like grew and threw. Watch the video and use your best handwriting to write some of the EW words out. 

Arithmetic: 

Today I would like you to put all of your great practise with your times tables this week into action with the times tables train! Have a go at your 2, 5 and 10 X tables on the Mental Maths Train! Click the picture below. 

Maths: 

Well done for your fantastic work this week on multiplication. We will be moving onto division next week. For today I would like you to recap some work on odd and even numbers as this will get you ready for our division work next week. Watch the lesson on aok academy and then complete the worksheets in your pack.

Spellings: 

Well done for all your hard work this week for your spellings. Have a go at writing them out this week without looking. 

 

Geography: 

You have done so well with our Geograhy work this week Year 2 well done. There is one last task for you to do with our Geography work and that is to compare what it is like in the UK and Kenya.

I have 2 videos for you to watch - the first one shows a day in the life of a child in rural Kenya and the second one shows urban Kenya. 

Watch the short videos and then complete the activity in your pack dated 22.1.21. 

     

 

Yoga:

We are going back to do one of our favourite Go Noodles this morning - Superheroes! 

 

English: 

Well done Year 2 - I saw some amazing openings yesterday to your stories - fabulous! Today we are writing the next part - the middle. This is the exciting bit so try and add some detail by using adjectives too. 

Phonics: 

Today is all about the UE sound - this one sometimes trips us up so take a good look :) I'd like you to have some fun with this one - can you make up some of your own alien words with the UE in? I'll give you one to get you started... stlue

 

Arithmetic: 

Today we are focussing on the 10 X tables. Play the game below with someone at home to practise your 10 X tables. 

 

Maths: 

Today's multiplication lesson is all about using the 10 X tables. Watch the video below and then answer the questions on your worksheet dated 20.1.21.

Spellings: 

Today we are continuing with the ER suffix. Read the sentences below and write out the ER words. Then use the words and make up some silly sentences! 

    

 

Geography: 

I really liked your facts about Kenya yesterday Year 2 - well done. Today we are going to look at rural Kenya and in particular the Maasai Tribe. Watch the videos below and then have a look at the lesson notes here In your pack is a sheet dated 21.1.21 to complete with facts about the Maasai tribe.

This week was all about clapping - talk to your adult or write some ideas down about the questions below.

We are going back to Andy today for one of his wild workouts! Enjoy a great start to your working day. 

English: 

Today it is time to start our new story - how very exciting Year 2! I cannot wait to read all of your fantatsic sentences and descriptions. Follow the lesson below (Lesson 7) to help you write it correctly. 

Phonics: 

Today's sound we are recapping is the split digraph 'o-e' as in 'stone'. Today I would like you to put 5 of the words you hear and read into 5 different sentences. 

 

Arithmetic: 

Today we are focussing on the 5 X tables Year 2! Log onto your times tables account and have a practise of the 5 X tables. 

Maths: 

Today's multiplication lesson is all about using the 5 X tables. Watch the video below and then answer the questions on your worksheet dated 20.1.21. 

Don't forget to log onto Maths Whizz afterwards and see if we can get that GOLD this week Year 2! 

Spellings: 

Today we are focussing on the ER suffix. Words like waiter and louder. Look at the list of words below and then writ ethe words out emphasising the er sound. You could use a coloured crayon or a pattern - be creative.

Geography: 

Our Geography topic is about making comparisons - looking for things that are the same and different. You ahve done a great job finding out about the UK and now its time to travel around the world to the continent of Africa - in particular Kenya. 

Using the sheets in your pack or online with the help of an adult, find out some facts about Kenya - what is the population? The weather like? Then fill in your Kenya fact sheet dated 20.1.21. I have popped some pictures and fact cards for you here too.

Hello Year 2! It's great to see so many of you logging onto TEAMS and joining in - I hope you like our new story! Who's excited to see what hasppens next? I will see you at 1pm to find out more!

Physical Activity:

We are going to try out a new 'Get Active' activity this morning. Click the link below for a new workout to get you started. 

English: 

I hope you enjoyed yesterday's lesson, you all had some great ideas for new things to make! Today is all about re-telling the story. Watch the video and complete the activities dated 19.01.21 If you can - complete the Boxing Up lesson (lesson 6) as well. 

Phonics: 

Today's sound we are recapping is the long vowel sound 'o' as in 'go'. Watch the video below then write the words out using your best handwriting - remember to loop those y and g letters - the cheeky monkey sits on the branch and curls his tail up!

 

Arithmetic: 

Let's continue working on those 2 X tables Year 2 - I have set you a task on MyMaths to have a go at - let's see how many you can get right. I will take a look later on today. 

Maths: 

We are continuing with multiplication Year 2 and in particular today we are using those 2 X tables to answer our questions. Watch the video below and then complete the worksheet in your pack dated 19.01.21.

Spellings: 

Today we continue to look at the suffix - ing. Take a look at the list of words below and then practise writing them out using different shapes and patterns just like we do in school for our speedy spellings. Send me some pictrures of your creative spellings!

Geography: 

I hope you enjoyed yesterday's activities all about cities and villages. I had some interesting ideas about which would be quieter and why!  Today we are going to focus on our wonderful UK a bit more.  

I would like you to find out as much as you can about the different countries within the UK - England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Use some of the facts in your pack and also watch the videos below to help you. You can add pictures or the country's flag to your facts too. I have added some flag colouring sheets to your pack for today as well.

Today is our PE day!

We are learning about athletics this term - I would like you to talk at home about running! What do you think you might need to do to become a good runner? Make a list of all the qualities a good runner needs. Then have a go at these activities below.

We have one ofour favourites this morning Year 2 - you don't need to do them all in one go! Get active with the Kidz Bop dances today. 

 

English: 

I know how much you have all enjoyed our Monkeys and Hats story last week, well this week you are going to become authors and write your own version! How exciting! Follow the video each day to write your story. Here is Lesson 1 for today. 

Phonics: 

Here is today's phonics recap lesson - today I would like you to write the words in the air as you watch it. 

Arithmetic: 

We are focussing on our times tables this week in our arithmetic sessions. Each day I will pop a game on for you to play. 

First you need to write out your 2 times tables all the way up to 12 X 2 =               I've made a satrt for you below. 

1 X 2 = 2

2 X 2 = 4

3 X 2 = 6

Now click on the picture below and play the game for the 2 X tables. 

Maths: 

We are continuing with all things multiplication this week year 2 and we start the week off with some doubling which will help us when multiplying by 2. Watch the video then complete the worksheets in your pack. 

Maths Whizz

We did brilliantly getting SILVER for Maths Whizz last week Year 2 - can we get GOLD this week? Make sure you log on and try to get those progressions. 

Spellings: 

This week, our spellings will focus on adding the suffixes ing and er.

English: 

Today we are looking at the second problem in our Monkeys and Hats story.I would like you to watch Lesson 10 - if you click the link below it is the lesson here. If you get time you can have a go at the other lessons in between, but make sure you do lesson 10 today. Watch the video then complete the tasks in your pack. 

Phonics: 

Here is today's phonics recap lesson - today I would like you to use the words in a sentence. How many sentences can you write? Challenge yourself! 

Arithmetic: 

For today's arithmetic I would like you to play the game below to test your quick adding and those number bonds. 

Maths: 

Today we are going to have another look at arrays and how we can use these to help us with our multiplying. Watch the video below about Using Arrays and then complete the sheets in your pack. 

Spellings: 

Today is 'test me' day! Ask your adult at home to test you on this week's spellings. Can you remember them all? If you get any wrong, don't worry just write them out again so you can practise getting them right. 

Afterwards I woiuld like you to choose 5 of our Year 1 and 2 common exception words and practise writing them out in all different colours or shapes. These words are crucial! 

Science: 

For today's science lesson I would like you to think back on everything you have learnt this week - tell your adult what plants need to grow and what they are made up of. Go back over the crucial knowledge from the beginning of the week. 

Today you are going to make some predictions. Look at your worksheet and think about what would happen to the plant in all the different conditions then keep your eyes peeled for some pictures of plants growing over the next few weeks. 

Once you have completed your activity sheets I have popped some videos below and an activity on Busy Things for you to have a go at. Enjoy!

Today I would like you to make sure that you all read a book! Whether that be on Oxford Owl or a book you have at home - I'd then like you to send me a little review of it. It could be with words or pictures.

Spellings: 

Let's continue with those suffixes. Today I would like you to put each of your weekly spellings into a sentence - remember to use your capital letters and full stops! 

Science: 

I have loved seeing all of your Science activities this week. I hope you enjoyed finding out what plants needed to grow. Today's activity is all about how the plant grows - it's life cycle. Watch the videos below and complete the quizzes then complete your activity sheets in your pack.

Physical Activity

Let's start the day the right way - with another Andy's Wild Workout - I know you love them :) 

English:

So many of you have done some lovely story maps - well done. Today's Monkeys and Hats lesson is all about sequencing the story - follow the activities on the video and then use adjectives to describe your favourite part of the story in your paper pack. 

Phonics: 

Keep recapping those sounds Year 2! They will help you for both your reading and your spellings when writing - choosing the right sound for spelling is VERY important in Year 2! 

Whilst you are watching, trying writing the sounds out in the air or on paper. 

Arithmetic: 

Let's keep working on those number bonds! Don't forget to check your paper pack and see if there is a task to do today as well. I would like you to try number bonds to 20 today. Play Hit the Button but just to 20 - play it 3 or 4 times - can you get more right each time? 

Maths: 

I saw some great work yesterday in Maths - just remember that if we are doing repeated addition, the number repeated is the same each time. 

So: 5 + 5 + 5 = 15               3 X 5 = 15

Today's lesson is all about that multiplication sign again and using pictures to help you solve multiplication questions. Watch the White Rose video by clicking below and then complete the worksheet in your pack. 

I have also set you a task on My Maths to be completed that links with our multiplication topic - please have a go at this once you have completed your paper worksheet. 

Spellings: 

This week we are continuing to practise adding those suffixes to the end of words. Today I would like you to use the spellings from your pack and do some Rainbow Writing - can you spell them in all different colours? Patterns? Write them out a few times in different shapes too, just like we do at school. 

Science:

We have been working hard in class on our Number Bonds to 10, 20 and 100! I would like you to play the Hit the Button Game on Top Marks by clicking the link below and practise the number bonds you need to work on. Can you beat your first score? Try it each day to see. There are also dated arithmetic activities in your pack. 

Maths

Today we are continuing to look at multiplication - today is all about the multiplication sign. Watch the video below and then have a go at the activity sheet in your pack - it is all about repeated addition and the X symbol. 

Spellings:

Remember to keep practising those common exception words - they are on our homework page and in your paper pack. A few a day will really help! Write them out in different colours, funny shapes - any way to help you remember them!

Science:

Today's learning is all about the parts of the plants and the correct names. Remember to keep looking at the crucial knowledge from yesterday to help you. Watch the video about the parts of the plant below and then complete your activity sheets in your pack. 

Once you have completed your videos and the pack have a go at the assignment on Busy Things. 

PE:

Tuesday is our PE day so remember to do some extra physical activities today from the links above!  Our new unit this term is Athletics! Take a look at the video below and see if you can join in. Remember to ask an adult to make sure it is safe for you to do so!
