Eco activity for Mrs Wright

You may remember seeing and reading about the climate change protests and strikes around the world on the news in 2019 and 2020.  Do you know what climate change means and what you could do to help stop climate change?  Click on the link below and watch the video to find out more.

Activity 1

Make a bright and colourful poster to teach others about what they could do to help stop climate change.  Use the ideas from the video to help you and make sure you include any of your own suggestions.

Activity 2 - Make a pledge (promise) to do one thing to help the climate crisis.

How can you help to stop climate change?  Choose one thing, either from your poster or a new idea, which you could do every day to help slow down climate change.  It could be something as simple turning your bedroom light off when you leave the room.  Write down your promise in big, colourful writing and put it somewhere you will see it every day to remind yourself.  If we work together, we can help keep our planet a safe home for generations to come.

Don’t forget to ask your grown up to take a photo of your posters and promises and send them to your teacher. We can’t wait to see them!

Afternoon sessions

As you know, this week is Children’s Mental Health Week and I have seen some lovely positive well-being activties! Here are today's to finish off our week.

Activity 1 - Positivity Jar

It is good to feel positive! We are going to create something to remind ourselves of how brilliant we are.

You will need an empty jar or container - remember to ask your adult first! If you don't have one, you can draw one.

Feel free to decorate your jar, container or drawing in whichever way you like. You could stick things on, paint over it, wrap it in ribbon or material - whatever you like! The jar needs to be personal to you so please take your time to decorate it.

Once you have finished your jar (it may need time to dry!), I'd like you to write positive comments about yourself on separate pieces of paper. You may have to cut them up or tear them. You can decorate these too. You may even want to ask members of your family to write some comments about you to put them in too!

Pop all your positive comments into your jar. You can keep it somewhere safe and take a look at the comments when you feel like you need a boost! Enjoy!

Activity 2 - Art and Music

Art and music often go hand-in-hand. Today, I'd like you to listen to this piece of classical music below and create some art work around how it makes you feel. You can do this in whichever way you like! Paint, draw, collage... you could even take your pencil for a walk and see where the music takes you! You can listen and watch the video as many times as you like. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Afternoon sessions

As you know, this week is Children’s Mental Health Week. Today is also 'World Cancer Day.'

We are thinking about people who might be very poorly, and how we could help them and make them smile. We are also raising some money for the charity Leukaemia Care who helps lots of poorly people too. You can make a donation (if you are able to) on Parent Pay under the heading ‘World Cancer Day’. Please bring something that makes you SMILE to our Teams meeting this morning – it can be anything you like smiley

One type of cancer is called leukaemia. We celebrated ‘Spot Leukaemia’ in September by dressing in our spotty clothes! Can you remember what leukaemia is?

Can anyone remember how we spot leukaemia? What symptoms might you have? Look at the list below…

What do Leukaemia Care do?

Activity 1

Make a poster about Leukaemia Care and how they help people who are poorly. Or you could make a poster highlighting some symptoms to look out for. Visit www.leukaemiacare.org.uk to find out more information about the charity.

Activity 2

If you are feeling poorly, sometimes you feel a bit sad. It’s great when your friends and family make you feel happy again! What do they do to make you smile? Draw a picture of the things you could do to make someone who is poorly smile. Maybe you could make a ‘card’ to send to someone who might feel poorly at the moment, and that might make them smile too smiley

Activity 3

It is really important to use different techniques to help us feel calm. Today, we are going to imagine we are on a desert island...

Have a think about these questions. You could write your answers down or of course, draw yourself on your desert island!

As you know, this week is Children’s Mental Health Week. Today is also 'Inside Out Day.'  This is all about understanding that we must value people for what is on the inside as well as the outside. Here are some links to help you with your activties today:

Activity 1 – What does kindness mean to me?

Imagine if our feelings were visible on the outside instead of on the inside. Weird! Would it make you think more carefully about being kind to others if you could see how they really felt on the outside? Today, I'd like you to create a piece of art work to describe what kindness means to you. You can use anything you like - pens, pencils, collage, paint, recycled materials - anything to explain what kindess looks like. You could create a poster or a poem, a picture or even write a short story. The choice is yours! Here are some of my ideas:

Activity 2 – Negative to positive thoughts

Sometimes, we all have negative thoughts. That's ok. But it is important to know what to do with them and how you can turn them into positive ones! Have a look at the negative thoughts below. How could you turn these into positive ones? You can  complete the activity on some paper.

     Have a lovely day! smiley

You can draw, colour, paint, collage - whatever you want! Once you have an image of your favourite character, I'd like you to write a description for them. Here is an example of the BFG to give you an idea.

Activity 2 – Traditional Tale Mix Up!

We can all tell the stories of The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood (the list goes on!). But what if we mixed them up?

I'd like you to pick elements of 3 (or more) traditional tales and rewrite your own story version! You can illustrate these or make them into your own little story book!

Activity 1 – My best qualities

Each one of us is different. You are a very special, unique person with many wonderful qualities. I'd like you to draw a picture of yourself, colour it in (if you can!) and list as many positive qualities about yourself around your drawing as you can. I have started mine to give you an idea!

Activity 2 – My Happy Place

Sometimes, people may feel sad, worried, angry or lonely. It is ok to feel like this but it is also important to remember that there are many ways to manage these difficult emotions. One of these ways is to imagine you are in your happy place. Answer the following questions below by drawing your answers. Add to your drawing each time you answer a question. Don't forget to send me your finished result!

1. Where is your happy place? For example, somewhere you have been for a day trip, somewhere in your house, somewhere you've been on holiday.

2. When you think of your happy place, who is with you? For example, your family or mabe a close friend.

3. What do you have with you in your happy place? For example, your favourite book, favourite film or food.

4. When you are in your happy place, how do you feel? Try to think about how your toes feel, all the way up to your head! Think about your brain too!

If you are focusing on Harry Potter, you can think about any part of the story that we've already read and put your own twist on it. Maybe Snape is teaching the postions lesson and Hagrid bursts in, knocking over a potion and causing chaos. Maybe Snape and Hagrid are patrolling the corridors and night when Harry and Ron go to find Malfoy for the wizard's duel. Maybe they get caught this time! The choice is yours!

We've been thinking about how the Parable of the Good Samaritan is linked with the work of different charities. If you haven't already, can you research one of the charities below and think about the following points:

Once you have done your research, I'd like you to create a poster advertising ONE of these charities. Make it as bright and bold as you can!

We are continung with our narrative work on Sherlock Holmes. Today you will be planning your own story.  Click on the button below and watch the video.

Once you have done this, you will need to use the planning sheet in your paper pack dated 27.1.21.

You need to plan a suspense story. Is Sherlock about to crack a case? What is the mystery that will be unveiled? Is Watson uncovering more clues?

If you are focusing on Harry Potter, you can think about any part of the story that we've already read and put your own twist on it. Maybe Snape is teaching the postions lesson and Hagrid bursts in, knocking over a potion and causing chaos. Maybe Snape and Hagrid are patrolling the corridors and night when Harry and Ron go to find Malfoy for the wizard's duel. Maybe they get caught this time! The choice is yours!
