Welcome to Year 6's Home Learning

Here are the shortcuts to some of the websites that we will be using over the next few weeks! You can also complete extra activities on here.

Break times! 

It is important that you take regular breaks when you are learning at home, just like we do in school. You must try to do something active every day!  Here are some ideas: 

            

Tuesday 19th January 2021 - Don't forget to log into Teams at 8:45am and 2pm!

English 
We are continung with our narrative work on Sherlock Holmes today. Click on the button below and complete Lesson 4 - To generate descriptive vocabulary. You will then need to add ideas to your worksheet from yesterday. Once you have done this, you can complete the worksheet in your paper pack (dated 19th January) by writing some descriptive ideas around the image of Sherlock's home (or Hogwarts - you don't have to do both!)

Spelling and Grammar 
Click on the button below to practise your weekly spellings! We are focusing on ie and ei words. Don't forget to practise your curriculum spellings too. These are in your paper pack. 

For Grammar, we are learning about colons. Click on the link below and complete Lesson 5 - To develop our knowledge of the function of a colon. 

 

Please make sure you read for at least 10 minutes today! Ask your grown up to fill in your reading diary. 

Maths

Yesterday, you recapped how to use co-ordinates. Today, we are moving onto using all four quandrants. Remember, along the corridor... up OR down the stairs! Today, I'd like you to complete the lesson 'Four Quadrants.' Click on the button below to access it, watch the lesson and then complete the set work in your paper pack. Your work for today is dated 19.1.21. 

Arithmetic 

Last week, you worked hard on fractions. I have set you some fractions tasks on My Maths to help you practise. I have also set you some some times tables practice. Please complete at least one of these tasks today. 

Remember to log onto Maths Whizz too! You should be aiming for at least 3-4 progressions every week! 

Geography

Here is our crucial knowledge overview for our new topic. This will help you with your learning this week. 

Today, I would like you to click on the link and watch the lessons detailed below. Once you have watched the lessons, I'd like you to complete the worksheet in your paper pack that is titled 'Climates of the Americas.' I have also put copies of different Koppen Guides below, to help you complete your work. A Koppen Guide tells you the kinds of climates in different areas of the world. Use the key at the top of the sheet to help you. The codes for the different climate are also below. You may need to complete additional research on the internet too.

Over the next few weeks we are going to be working on writing a story based on Sherlock Holmes. You will then need to complete the worksheet in your paper pack (dated 18th January) by building vocabulary describing Victorian London.

Friday 15th January 2021 - Don't forget to log into Teams at 2pm for our certificates this week!

Click on the button below and complete Lesson 10 - To write the main body of a diary entry. You will then need to continue your diary entry from where you left off on Wednesday (lined paper...13th Jan!) You are writing your diary entry from start to finish. Make sure you include all of the features and ideas you have been working on this week. Anything that you have already written, make sure you edit it it as we do in class. Don't forget to write the date and LO on the top, like we normally would! I can't wait to read them!

Task 1: If you have not already done so, I'd like you to complete the work on micro-organisms. Click on the link below and watch the video. Once you have done that, complete the worksheet 5C in your paper pack. 

 

Task 2: You have now done lots of work on classifying living things. I would like you complete worksheet 6A. You will need to go outside into your garden if you have one. If you don't have a garden, think about what you might find around our school grounds. The sheet you are looking for looks like this: 

 

Once you have completed sheet 6A there are lots of questions left for you to have a go at in your pack. Choose a few to complete and let me know how you get on!   

 

French Friday! 

Click on the button below. It will take you to a page where you can listen to and learn the French for different animals and pets. Just click on the speak symbol to listen. Then complete the worksheet 'As-tu an animal?' which means 'Do you have a pet?'

 

Thursday 14th January 2021

English 
Click on the button below and complete Lesson 9 - To plan the main body of a diary entry. You will then need to complete the planning grid in your paper pack dated 14.1.21. Some of you did this yesterday by mistake. If this is you, please write the opening of your diary entry on some lined paper! Don't forget to write the date and LO on the top, like we normally would in class.

Here is our crucial knowledge overview for our new topic. This will help you with your learning this week. 

 

 

Task 1: If you have not already done so, watch the video below on Carl Linnaeus by clicking the button. He was a taxonomist (a scientist who classifies living things) who created a formal classification system. The system, which is called the Linnaean system, is still used today. 

Once you have watched the video, you can complete the worksheet 4A in your pack. You will also need to use the sheet with the heading, 'Animal classification system - examples of mammals' to help you answer the questions on sheet 4A. Here is a colour copy: 

 

Task 2:  Today we are learning all about micro-organisms. Click on the link below and watch the video. Once you have done that, complete the worksheet 5C in your paper pack. 

 

Wednesday 13th January 2021 

English 
Click on the button below and complete Lesson 8 - To write the opening of a diary entry. You will then need to write your own opening on a piece of lined paper. Please make sure you write the date and LO, like we would do in class. Don't forget to include thoughts and feelings and write in a chatty style!

PE - It's Wednesday! 

Click on the link below and watch the video. Can you complete any of these activities at home? Make sure you have got enough space around you before you try them! You can also have a go at some Go Noodle, Yoga or PE with Joe! Make sure you warm up before doing any sort of exercise. 

 

Tuesday 12th January 2021 

English 
Click on the button below and complete Lesson 4 - To generate vocabulary: emotions. You will then need to complete the table sorting activity in your paper pack dated 12.1.21. There are some examples on there to get you started.
